Sabana de Bogota Touristic Train

TURISTREN is a private company founded in 1992 in order to rescue the former abandoned steam trains by creating the Sabana de Bogota Touristic Train

Nine steam locomotives were acquired in poor condition, four of which were restored.to working condition. Twenty four passengers cars were also acquired and refurbished to enter service with the locomotives.

The first train was launched in May, 1993, with the route Bogotá - Nemocón - Bogotá, since then Turistren has been operating, touristic trains every weekend and holiday for the public and express trains for schools and companies during weekdays.

Usually the train is composed by a steam locomotive and fourteen (14) cars with a total capacity of 560 passengers, comfortably seated.

In 2007 a restored Diesel railcar entered service, composed of 4 coaches with a capacity of up to 160 passengers. Soon a similar second railcar will enter service.
